The Sarasota Succulent Society: One of the Oldest Non-Profits in Sarasota
The Sarasota Succulent Society, founded in 1950, is a vibrant community dedicated to the appreciation, cultivation, and conservation of succulents and other drought-tolerant plants. Located in the heart of Sarasota, Florida, the society offers enthusiasts a unique opportunity to explore a diverse collection of these resilient plants, attend educational events, and connect with fellow gardeners. The society’s historic gardens serve as both a sanctuary for rare species and a living classroom where members and visitors alike can learn about the beauty and sustainability of succulent gardening.
Objective and Hurdles
The primary objective was to bring the website into the 21st century. The previous design used very few images, a lot of written copy that was organized poorly, no accommodations for mobile devices, and content that was hard to find.
Website Template
The design we built for the Sarasota Succulent Society is an example of what we call a “templated design” versus a custom website design. Basically, while we did invest considerable energy in customizing the imagery, colors, and typography, the general layout of the site was a pre-built template. If done properly, this allows a designer to maximize their time while still providing a custom feel.
Premium Photography
There are definitely some included photos that were provided by the Sarasota Succulent Society. But to really drive the beauty of the plants home, we used premium stock photography from Adobe. Adobe, being one of the leading and best-known names in the digital graphics world, has a collection of stock imagery that is better than any other stock image provider. This is why we use them.
